Add a client

Clients are the backbone of your business. Keep their details tidy with contact preferences and helpful notes.

Step-by-step

  1. Click New Client: open Clients & Pets, choose Clients, then hit New Client.
  2. Enter the client's details
    • First Name (required)
    • Last Name (required)
    • Phone (optional but recommended for quick calls)
    • Email (optional, but required if you want email reminders)
  3. Add an address (optional): use Find Address for a quicker lookup, or enter it manually if you want it on invoices. After saving, the client page shows a map preview.
  4. Set contact preferences: choose Email or Text under Preferred Contact Method. Text is for eligible notifications to UK mobile numbers; see Use SMS notifications.
  5. Add an emergency vet (optional): helpful in the rare case you ever need it.
  6. Add notes (optional): business notes like "Always pays cash" or "Prefers early slots."
  7. Save the client: click Create Client.

What happens after I save?

  • The client is added to your searchable list.
  • You can add pets, bookings, and balance activity from the client page.

You do not need to create or invite a client before they can request an appointment online. With public booking requests enabled, Barkway creates the client record after email verification and signs the client into the portal. If the verified email already belongs to a client in your business, Barkway uses that existing record instead.

Pro tips

  • Always grab at least one contact method (phone or email).
  • Use client notes for business info. Pet quirks belong in pet notes.
  • Keep addresses updated if you use the map preview.

Once the client is saved, add their pet straight away.
