Update a client or pet
Keep client and pet info sharp — names, contact details, address, vet info, notes — plus control of the client balance.
Update a client
- Open the client — Clients & Pets → Clients, then click a client's name.
- Update contact details — name, phone, email. These drive reminders and receipts, so keep them accurate.
- Edit the address — if you want it on invoices. The client page shows a map preview when an address is saved.
- Set contact preferences — choose Email or Text.
- Update notes — payment preferences, availability, anything future-you will thank you for.
- Manage client balance — the Balance panel lets you add or remove credit with Adjust Balance.
- Review registered pets — the linked pets section shows their pets with quick links. Use Add Pet to register another.
- Save — click Save Changes.

- Open the pet — from Clients & Pets → Pets (or via a client record), click the pet's name.
- Update the basics — name, breeds, sex, weight, date of birth, linked client, and profile photo.
- Adjust health & medical info — temperament, allergies, medical conditions.
- Refresh grooming & vet info — Last Groomed, Microchip Number, and vet details.
- Recall reminders — use Exclude this pet from recall reminders to opt out; the pet won't appear in overdue lists.
- Update pet notes — keep quirks and reminders fresh.
Header actions
- New Booking — create an appointment for this pet directly from their profile.
- Delete Pet — soft-deletes the pet so it's removed from lists but retained for reporting; booking history stays in your records.
Client balance
The client balance is Barkway's home for prepaid money — one clear place to hold funds that can be used on future bookings.
- One balance per client — holds prepaid money and overpayments.
- Overpayments roll forward automatically into the balance.
- Apply it when needed — cover a deposit requirement or a remaining invoice balance.
- Everything is logged — each credit or debit creates a balance entry for your records.
To manually adjust a balance: open Clients → Edit Client, scroll to Client balance, and click Adjust Balance — then choose Add credit or Remove credit and add a reason.
When recording a payment or deposit, tick Use client balance to apply it — Barkway caps the amount to the available balance and the amount due.
